We are a warm, friendly fellowship with a sincere love of God. Sunday morning congregations average approximately 50 people, including a significant number of children. The Fellowship comes from a wide range of non-conformist and Anglican backgrounds. We are endeavouring to achieve our vision of “seeking to worship God, serve our community and thereby each other”. We are building on contacts made through our toddler group Little Fishes and our children’s holiday club we run in August. In our services we enjoy a mixture of traditional and new songs and we hold communion on alternate weeks.
Great Torrington, as a town, has accepted the principles of Fairtrade and has been designated as a ‘Fairtrade Town’. Torrington Baptist Church is delighted to have played its part in the town achieving this accolade and is in full support of the principles surrounding fairtrade.
The ‘Fairtrade’ Foundation has three goals for churches that wish to be designated as ‘Fairtrade’, these being:
- Use Fairtrade tea and coffee after services and in all meetings for which it has responsibility
- Move forward on using other Fairtrade products such as sugar, biscuits and fruit
- Promote Fairtrade during Fairtrade Fortnight and during the year through events, worship and other activities whenever possible.
The Church Meeting was pleased to acknowledge this criteria, readily adopted it and is delighted to have now been designated as a ‘Fairtrade Church’.
